Health Fair - Free
The name of the project is Woman2Woman (W2W). W2W informs women about steps they can take to improve their physical and mental health and prevent disease. Activities include breakout sessions on Good Mental Health, Body Image, Alcohol Spectrum Disorder and Smoking. Individuals may drink or smoke in an attempt to “self-medicate” to alleviate their feelings of depression . Additionally, depression and anxiety are associated with cravings for alcohol and nicotine And long-term use of alcohol and nicotine can produce low levels of the brain chemical serotonin, which might trigger or worsen depression . Given the apparent link between drinking, smoking, and depression, Ait-Daoud and colleagues suggest that clinicians must address both addictions and depression. Obesity-Depression Links: Research has shown that there's no clear, one-way connection between obesity and depression. Instead, studies have shown that the two tend to feed off each other in a vicious, self-destructive circle.
Goal: Increase the level of awareness of disease prevention, risk reduction, for ethnic minorities and increased healthy lifestyle behaviors; Remove barriers to obtaining a healthy weight/obesity among women ages 15-65 Objective 1 - 80% of participating women report that they understand the connection between smoking, alcohol consumption, body image and depression on obesity Survey - depression Objective 2 – 35% of participating women sign up for and agree to use face book, twitter and text to remain motivated and motivated others Objective 3 – 80% of participants report that they understand the Social Determinants of Health
